Gay Does It Again

15 06 2009

Brian Gay did it again yesterday in Memphis – and then some. Not only did he win the St. Jude Classic by five shots – his second PGA Tour event in the last two months – the victory got him a spot in this week’s U.S. Open at Bethpage Black.

Gay, who will play at this year’s John Deere Classic, July 6-12, at TPC Deere Run is one of five players on Tour to win twice so far this season, putting him in pretty solid company. The others are Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Geoff Ogilvy, and Tiger Woods.

Former Quad Cities champion David Toms and Bryce Molder were runners-up to Gay and 2006 JDC champ John Senden was one stroke behind them. Molder received a sponsor exemption to play in the John Deere when he came out of Georgia Tech. All three will be back at this year’s event.

Eight weeks ago, Gay ran away with the Verizon Heritage at Harbor Town, where his 10-stroke victory got him a berth in The Masters.
