John Deere Classic Well Represented in this years U.S. Open Field

15 06 2009

Now that U.S. Open week has arrived, it’s fun to see that 34 of this year’s Bethpage Black contestants already have committed to the 2009 John Deere Classic, July 6-12, at TPC Deere Run in Silvis. Under PGA Tour rules, players have until 5 p.m. Friday the week before the tournament to commit, so there could be more.

Current John Deere Classic defending champion Kenny Perry and past champions J.P. Hayes (2001), and David Toms (1990) are committed to both events. John Senden (2006) will be on the grounds at Bethpage as an alternate should someone drop out, but he’s a sure thing in the Quad Cities. Past JDC champions Vijay Singh (2003) and Sean O’Hair (2005) are in the Open, too, but haven’t yet committed to the John Deere Classic.

Other players in both fields are a mixture of young players and veterans: Steve Allan, Eric Axley, Briny Baird, Ricky Barnes, Cameron Beckman, Matt Bettencourt, Chad Campbell, Ken Duke, David Duval, Lucas Glover, Scott Gutschewski, Todd Hamilton, J.J. Henry, Zach Johnson, Matt Jones, Greg Kraft, Martin Laird, George McNeill, James Nitties, Carl Petterson, Heath Slocum, Darren Stiles, Chris Stroud, Kevin Sutherland, Peter Tomasulo, D.J. Trahan, Charlie Wi, Casey Wittenberg, and Gary Woodland.
