Lucas Glover Wins the U.S. Open

22 06 2009

The John Deere Classic board of directors, staff, and volunteers congratulate Lucas Glover on his victory in the 109th U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York!

Lucas has committed to play in this year’s John Deere Classic, July 6-12, at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Lucas has been a longtime supporter of the John Deere Classic since he received a sponsor exemption in 2002. He made the cut that year and won $10,800. Since then he has been back in the field in 2004, ’05, ’07, and ’08.

Last year, he was one of 21 players to take the inaugural John Deere Classic charter jet to the British Open in England from the Quad Cities. We look forward to seeing him again this year.

Lucas finished the Open at 4-under par on rounds of 69-64-70-73—276, edging Phil Mickelson, David Duval, and playing partner Ricky Barnes by two strokes. Though he made four bogeys during his final round, his only birdie came at a clutch moment on the 16th hole, giving him a two-shot lead as he went to the final two holes.

Comeback Kids Duval and Barnes also are on this year’s John Deere Classic commitment list, as is Matt Bettencourt, who tied for 10th at 2-over. Duval now has completely resurrected his career and Barnes appears to be approaching his huge potential.

Congratulations to all!
